Dr. Gantos has a passion for providing access to care to those in need. To check out details and pictures from her mission trips, read below.
Our office also volunteers with the Dental Lifeline Network. Through this program, we provide free comprehensive dental treatment to the country's most vulnerable people with disabilities or who are elderly or medically fragile. These are people who cannot afford the necessary treatment and cannot get public aid.
Our office also participates with the Give Back a Smile program through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation. This program provides dental care at no cost to adult survivors of domestic and sexual violence who have received traumatic dental injuries to their smile-zone as a result of abuse.
In 2016, Dr. Gantos traveled to Lare, Kenya with a team where they provided dental education and examinations to students at St. Francis Secondary School and St. Clara Vocational School (roughly 16,000 teeth in total!) With the closest dentist 40 kilometers away, this was the first time these students had ever seen a dentist. Dr. Gantos is hoping to return to Kenya again soon!
Together, our team of five dentists from Halo Missions performed extractions for six consecutive days in Ndola, Zambia. A mobile clinic was set up in a tent where people would begin lining up in the early hours of the morning. We worked closely with a medical and surgical team as well who provided additional services for the community. We also aided non-dental projects such as delivering school uniforms to orphans and setting up an irrigation system as well. As per usual, the best part of the trip was playing with the children before and after clinic hours!
Together, our team of 32 dentists performed 2250 extractions (700 of which were wisdom teeth) for the incredible individuals of Jutiapa, Guatemala. A mobile clinic was set up and people would begin lining up at 5am just to be seen before 6pm. Various volunteers aided the mission by helping out with sterilization and assisting extractions. This past week has been a huge blessing and I am so appreciative to have had this beautiful opportunity!
In August of 2018, Dr. Gantos along with 4 other faculty members from Midwestern University and 25 dental students spent one week in the Dominican Republic. During their time, they provided free dental care to over 500 patients in the local community. Their team performed several procedures on each patient ranging from prophylactic cleanings, root canals, cavity fillings, dental extractions, and removable denture appliances.
